JOCAN '21

After a year as strange as 2020, I feel truly honoured to have been a part of the Joven Orquesta de Canarias' New Year's Concerts and Tour.

I also had the opportunity to be the soloist for 'Galdosiana' in its world premiere. Galdosiana is an intense symphonic poem-like short piece, written by composer Laura Vega in honour of Benito Pérez Galdós, an acclaimed Spanish writer. The novelist and playwright was born in Gran Canaria and whose Episodios Nacionales (National Episodes) are one of the most important pieces of twentieth-century Spanish literature. In fact, he is considered to be the greatest Spanish novelist since Miguel de Cervantes!

JOCAN's third - and final - concert of this tour took place in the emblematic Gran Canarian theatre named after the author, in commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of his death. Playing this piece as well as Beethoven's Seventh Symphony under the baton of maestro Vicent Alberola (Mahler Chamber Orchestra) was a truly inspiring experience that I am extremely grateful for.
